Pantry

Not Recommended

Unsafe for extended storage; consume within 2 hours

Lychees are perishable. If left at room temperature, they should be consumed or refrigerated within 2 hours to prevent bacterial growth.

Refrigerator

1-2 weeks

Store unwashed lychees in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator's crisper drawer. Wash thoroughly just before eating.

Freezer

8-12 months for best quality, safe indefinitely

Freeze whole, unpeeled lychees in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers. For best quality, consume within 8-12 months.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft or mushy texture
  • Discoloration (dark spots, browning)
  • Sour or fermented odor
  • Mold growth
  • Leaking or sticky skin

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Lychees are perishable and should be refrigerated promptly after purchase. Do not leave at room temperature for extended periods.
