Cooked mashed potatoes are perishable and should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods.
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Store promptly in shallow, airtight containers to ensure rapid cooling. Place in the coldest part of the refrigerator.
Freezer
10-12 months
Freeze in airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. For best quality, cool completely before freezing. Label with the date.
Signs of Spoilage

Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.
Always refrigerate or freeze cooked mashed potatoes within 2 hours of cooking to prevent bacterial growth.
Safe Handling
Reheat mashed potatoes to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) using a food thermometer.
Do not leave cooked mashed potatoes at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave out for more than 1 hour.
Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils and containers.
