Refrigerator
Not recommended for safety extension; primarily for quality. 1-3 years if stored in an airtight, opaque container.
If refrigerating, ensure an extremely airtight, opaque container to prevent moisture absorption and odor contamination. Allow to come to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
Freezer
Not recommended for safety extension; primarily for quality. 1-3 years if stored in an airtight, opaque, freezer-safe container.
If freezing, ensure an extremely airtight, opaque, freezer-safe container to prevent freezer burn, moisture absorption, and odor contamination. Thaw completely before opening to prevent condensation.
Signs of Spoilage
- Mold growth (due to moisture exposure)
- Off-odor or stale smell
- Significant discoloration (e.g., dull brown instead of vibrant green)
- Clumping or hardening (due to moisture absorption)
- Presence of pests
Room Temperature Safety
Not applicable to dry, shelf-stable powders. For prepared matcha beverages, the danger zone is 40°F–140°F.
Keep dry matcha powder sealed and away from moisture. Prepared matcha beverages should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F/32°C).
