Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.
Always refrigerate cut melons promptly. Discard any cut melon left in the danger zone for too long.
Safe Handling
Wash whole melons thoroughly under running water with a clean produce brush before cutting to remove dirt and bacteria from the rind.
Use a clean cutting board and knife when preparing melons to prevent cross-contamination.
Refrigerate cut melons within 2 hours (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Do not leave cut melons at room temperature for extended periods.
