Standard pasteurized fluid milk requires refrigeration. Unopened UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) milk can be stored in the pantry until opened, then must be refrigerated.
Refrigerator
1 week
Keep milk refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below. Store in the coldest part of the refrigerator, not in the door.
Freezer
3 months
Milk can be frozen in its original container or in airtight freezer-safe containers, leaving headspace for expansion. Thaw in the refrigerator.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour odor
- Curdled or lumpy texture
- Off-flavor
- Discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Do not leave milk at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave it out for more than 1 hour. Discard any milk left in the danger zone for too long.
Safe Handling
Always keep milk refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Return milk to the refrigerator immediately after use.
Do not drink directly from the carton to prevent contamination.
Discard milk if it has been left at room temperature for too long.
