Millet MilkShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
Until 'Best By' date (if shelf-stable, unopened)
Store unopened, shelf-stable millet milk in a cool, dark pantry away from direct sunlight and heat. Once opened, it must be refrigerated.
Refrigerator
7-10 days after opening
Refrigerate promptly after opening. Keep tightly sealed in its original container or an airtight container. Do not store in the refrigerator door, as temperatures fluctuate there.
Freezer
Up to 6 months for best quality
While safe indefinitely, for best quality, freeze millet milk for up to 6 months. Freeze in small, airtight containers, leaving headspace for expansion. Thaw in the refrigerator. Note that texture may become grainy or separated after thawing, but it is safe to consume.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Unusual or bitter taste
- Change in color
- Lumpy, curdled, or thickened texture
- Mold growth
- Bulging or leaking packaging (for unopened containers)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Promptly refrigerate opened millet milk. Discard any opened millet milk left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.
Safe Handling
Always check the 'Best By' or 'Use By' date on the packaging.
Do not consume millet milk from packaging that is bulging, leaking, or damaged.
Refrigerate opened millet milk promptly and consistently at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils and containers when serving.
