Fresh minced onion should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods due to rapid spoilage.

Refrigerator

3-4 days

Store fresh minced onion in a sealed airtight container or bag to prevent odor transfer and maintain freshness. Place in the coldest part of the refrigerator.

Freezer

10-12 months

To freeze, spread minced onion in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer to freezer-safe bags or containers, removing as much air as possible. Label with the date.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft or mushy texture
  • Slimy appearance
  • Off-odor or sour smell
  • Visible mold growth
  • Discoloration (darkening or unusual spots)

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), this time is reduced to 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Fresh minced onion should be refrigerated or frozen as soon as possible after preparation to minimize time spent in the danger zone.
