Prepared miso soup should not be stored at room temperature. Unopened miso paste can be stored in the pantry.
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Store cooked miso soup in shallow, airtight containers. Refrigerate promptly within 2 hours after cooking.
Freezer
2-3 months
Freeze cooked miso soup in airtight freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. Leave headspace for expansion. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-odor
- Visible mold growth
- Slimy texture
- Unusual discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Promptly refrigerate or freeze miso soup to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Never taste food that looks or smells suspicious to determine if it's safe.
Safe Handling
Refrigerate or freeze cooked miso soup within 2 hours of preparation.
Reheat soup thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Do not leave soup at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils and containers.
