Mizuna mustard greens are highly perishable and should not be stored at room temperature in the pantry. Store in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and safety.

Refrigerator

3-7 days

Store unwashed mizuna mustard greens in a loose plastic bag or wrapped in a damp paper towel in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash thoroughly under running water just before use.

Freezer

10-12 months

To freeze mizuna mustard greens, blanch them first by immersing in boiling water for 2 minutes, then immediately cool in ice water. Drain well, squeeze out excess moisture, and pack into airtight freezer bags or containers. Freezing raw greens is not recommended for quality.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Wilting or limp leaves
  • Slimy or mushy texture
  • Yellowing or browning of leaves
  • Strong, unpleasant odor
  • Visible mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)

Perishable foods, including fresh mizuna mustard greens, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C). Bacteria multiply rapidly in the danger zone, increasing the risk of foodborne illness.
