Mortadella, once opened, is a perishable food and must be refrigerated immediately. Do not store at room temperature.
Refrigerator
3-5 days
Store opened mortadella in its original packaging, tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer to an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
Freezer
1-2 months
For best quality, wrap mortadella tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil, plastic freezer wrap, or place in a freezer bag. Thaw in the refrigerator before use.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-odor
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Discoloration (e.g., grayish or greenish tint)
- Presence of mold
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods like opened mortadella should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling deli meats.
Keep mortadella refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Avoid cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and utensils for deli meats and other foods, especially raw meats.
Do not consume mortadella that has been left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
