Store fresh mushrooms in the refrigerator immediately after purchase.

Refrigerator

5-7 days

Store fresh, whole mushrooms in their original packaging or a paper bag in the refrigerator. Do not wash until ready to use.

Freezer

10-12 months (after cooking/blanching)

For best quality, clean and slice mushrooms, then blanch or sauté them before freezing. Pack in airtight freezer bags or containers.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Dark spots or discoloration
  • Dry, shriveled, or wrinkled appearance
  • Sour, ammonia-like, or strong unpleasant odor
  • Visible mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

Do not leave perishable food out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.

Fresh mushrooms should be refrigerated promptly after purchase and not left at room temperature for extended periods.
