Store whole, uncut oranges at cool room temperature (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight.
Refrigerator
3-4 weeks
Store whole oranges in a plastic bag or mesh bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to maintain freshness and humidity.
Freezer
10-12 months
To freeze, peel and separate into segments, or slice. Remove seeds. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers. Can also be frozen as juice.
Signs of Spoilage
- Soft spots or mushy texture
- Mold growth (white, green, or black fuzzy spots)
- Off-odor
- Significant discoloration or shriveling
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Discard cut oranges left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C). Whole, uncut oranges can be stored at room temperature for up to 1 week for best quality.
Safe Handling
Wash whole oranges thoroughly under running water before peeling or cutting, even if the peel is not eaten, to prevent transferring bacteria from the surface to the edible portion.
Use a clean cutting board and knife when preparing oranges.
