Pantry

Until 'best by' date (unopened, shelf-stable)

Store unopened, shelf-stable oat milk in a cool, dark place. Once opened, it must be refrigerated.

Refrigerator

7-10 days (opened)

Refrigerate promptly after opening. Keep tightly sealed. Do not store in the refrigerator door, where temperatures can fluctuate.

Freezer

3-6 months (for best quality)

While safe indefinitely when frozen, oat milk's texture may change (become grainy or separate) after thawing. Freeze in an airtight container, leaving headspace for expansion. Thaw in the refrigerator.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off odor
  • Curdled or lumpy texture
  • Discoloration
  • Mold growth
  • Bloated or bulging packaging (for unopened containers)

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods, including opened oat milk, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Opened oat milk should be refrigerated promptly. Discard any opened oat milk that has been left in the 'Danger Zone' for too long.
