Oat MilkShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
Until 'Best By' date (unopened, shelf-stable); Unsafe (opened)
Store unopened, shelf-stable oat milk in a cool, dark place. Once opened, refrigerate immediately.
Refrigerator
7-10 days (opened); Until 'Best By' date (unopened, refrigerated)
Keep opened oat milk tightly sealed in its original container in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Do not store in the refrigerator door.
Freezer
1-2 months for best quality, safe indefinitely
While safe indefinitely, freezing may alter the texture and consistency of oat milk, making it grainy or separated. Thaw in the refrigerator and shake well before use. Not recommended for drinking straight, but suitable for cooking or baking.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Unusual taste
- Lumpy or curdled texture
- Discoloration
- Mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Opened oat milk should be refrigerated promptly. Discard any oat milk left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time limits.
Safe Handling
Always check the 'Best By' or 'Use By' date on the packaging.
Refrigerate oat milk promptly after opening.
Do not drink directly from the carton to prevent contamination.
If freezing, consider freezing in smaller portions for easier thawing and use.
