Pantry

Not Recommended

Not recommended for opened oatmilk

Unopened, shelf-stable oatmilk can be stored in the pantry until the 'Best By' date. Once opened, it must be refrigerated immediately.

Refrigerator

7-10 days

Store opened oatmilk in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Keep tightly sealed. Unopened, refrigerated oatmilk should be stored in the fridge until the 'Best By' date.

Freezer

1-2 months

While safe to freeze, the texture and consistency of oatmilk may change upon thawing, becoming grainy or separated. Thaw in the refrigerator. Stir well before use.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off-odor
  • Curdled or lumpy texture
  • Discoloration
  • Mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods, including opened oatmilk, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), this time is reduced to 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.

To ensure safety, always return opened oatmilk to the refrigerator promptly after use. Discard any oatmilk that has been left in the danger zone for too long.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Always refrigerate oatmilk promptly after opening, regardless of whether it was shelf-stable or refrigerated prior to opening.

2

Do not consume oatmilk that has been left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).

3

Keep oatmilk containers tightly sealed to prevent absorption of odors and contamination.
