Whole passion fruit can be frozen. Alternatively, scoop out the pulp and seeds, place in freezer-safe bags or containers, or freeze in ice cube trays before transferring to bags.

  • Mold growth on the skin
  • Unpleasant or fermented odor
  • Excessive softness or mushy texture
  • Leaking juices

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable food should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Passion fruit can be left at room temperature for 2-3 days to ripen. Once ripe, or if not intended for immediate consumption, it should be refrigerated to slow spoilage and prevent bacterial growth.
