Pantry
2-3 days
Store unripe persimmons at room temperature to ripen (several days to a week). Once ripe, consume within 2-3 days or refrigerate. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Refrigerator
3-5 days
Store ripe persimmons in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator's crisper drawer.
Freezer
8-12 months
Wash, peel (optional), and slice or halve persimmons. Freeze on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to airtight freezer bags or containers. Can also be pureed and frozen.
Signs of Spoilage
- Mold growth
- Excessive softness or mushy texture beyond ripeness
- Off-odor (fermented or sour smell)
- Significant discoloration or dark spots
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Do not leave ripe persimmons at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave out for more than 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Wash persimmons thoroughly under running water before eating, even if peeling.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping persimmons separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
