Freezer
Not RecommendedNot recommended for uncut
Freezing whole, uncut pineapple is not recommended due to texture changes upon thawing. For freezing, pineapple should be peeled, cored, and cut into pieces.
Signs of Spoilage
- Soft spots or mushy texture
- Mold growth on the skin or flesh
- Fermented or alcoholic odor
- Discoloration, especially dark spots or a dull appearance
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Whole, uncut pineapple can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days to ripen or if already ripe. Once cut, it becomes a perishable food and must be refrigerated within 2 hours.
Safe Handling
Wash the exterior of the pineapple thoroughly under cool running water before cutting to remove any dirt or bacteria.
Use a clean cutting board and clean utensils to prevent cross-contamination.
After cutting, any unused portions should be refrigerated promptly in an airtight container.
