Store whole, ripe, unpeeled pineapple in the refrigerator to extend its shelf life. Do not wash until ready to use.

Freezer

10-12 months (peeled, cored, and cut)

Pineapple should be peeled, cored, and cut into chunks or slices before freezing. Pack in airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or bruising on the rind
  • Mold growth, especially at the base or crown
  • A sour, fermented, or alcoholic odor
  • Leaking juice from the bottom
  • Dull or discolored rind

Room Temperature Safety

Whole, unpeeled pineapple can be stored at room temperature for 1-2 days once ripe. Once cut, the 2-hour rule applies (1 hour above 90°F/32°C).

40°F–140°F (for cut pineapple)

Keep whole, unpeeled pineapple at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, consume or refrigerate. Any cut pineapple should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
