Pizza is a perishable food and should not be stored at pantry temperatures for safety.

Refrigerator

Refrigerate promptly in shallow, airtight containers to ensure rapid cooling. Store at 40°F (4°C) or below.

Freezer

3-4 months

Wrap pizza slices or whole pizzas tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic freezer wrap, or place in heavy-duty freezer bags or airtight containers. Freeze at 0°F (-18°C) or below.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off-odor
  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Mold growth
  • Discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Perishable foods, including cooked pizza, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour. Discard any pizza left out longer than these times.
