Polony is a perishable food and should be kept refrigerated. Do not store at room temperature.
Refrigerator
Unopened: 2 weeks; Opened: 3-5 days
Store in original packaging or tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Freezer
1-2 months for best quality; safe indefinitely
Wrap tightly in freezer paper, aluminum foil, or place in heavy-duty freezer bags to prevent freezer burn. Label with the date.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-odor
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Discoloration (e.g., grayish or greenish spots)
- Mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including polony, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour, after which it should be discarded.
Safe Handling
Keep polony refrigerated at or below 40°F (4°C) until ready to use.
Prevent cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and utensils for ready-to-eat foods like polony and raw meats.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling polony.
Do not leave polony at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
