Pantry
Not RecommendedNot recommended
Raw pork chops should not be stored at room temperature due to rapid bacterial growth.
Refrigerator
3-5 days
Store raw pork chops in their original packaging or in a sealed container on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods. Maintain refrigerator temperature at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Freezer
4-6 months
For best quality, freeze raw pork chops in airtight packaging, heavy-duty freezer bags, or freezer-safe containers to prevent freezer burn. Label with the date of freezing.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Dull or discolored appearance (e.g., greenish or grayish tinge)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Always refrigerate or freeze raw pork chops promptly. Discard any raw pork chops left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time limits.
Safe Handling
Cook all raw pork chops to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) as measured with a food thermometer, followed by a 3-minute rest time.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling raw pork.
Use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils for raw pork and ready-to-eat foods to prevent cross-contamination.
Thaw frozen pork chops in the refrigerator, in cold water (changing water every 30 minutes), or in the microwave. Never thaw on the counter.
