Pantry

Not Recommended

Not recommended

Fresh mushrooms should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods as they spoil quickly and lose quality.

Refrigerator

5 to 7 days

Store unwashed in original packaging or a paper bag in the main compartment of the refrigerator. This allows them to breathe and prevents moisture buildup. Avoid storing near strong-smelling foods.

Freezer

10 to 12 months

For best quality, clean and slice mushrooms. Blanch or sauté before freezing. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to airtight freezer bags or containers.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Dark spots or discoloration
  • Foul or sour odor
  • Visible mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Mushrooms, like most fresh produce, should be refrigerated promptly after purchase and not left at room temperature for extended periods to prevent rapid spoilage and bacterial growth.
