Pui Shak is highly perishable and should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods. It will wilt quickly.
Refrigerator
3-7 days
Store unwashed Pui Shak in a loose plastic bag or wrapped in a damp paper towel in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash thoroughly just before use.
Freezer
10-12 months
To freeze, blanch Pui Shak leaves for 2-3 minutes, then immediately cool in ice water. Drain thoroughly, pat dry, and pack into freezer-safe bags or containers, removing as much air as possible.
Signs of Spoilage
- Slimy or sticky texture on leaves
- Yellowing or browning of leaves
- Off-odor
- Visible mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Perishable foods, including fresh produce like Pui Shak, should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), this time reduces to 1 hour. Promptly refrigerate or freeze.
Safe Handling
Wash Pui Shak thoroughly under running water before consumption or cooking to remove dirt and potential contaminants.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping raw Pui Shak separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
Do not consume Pui Shak if it shows signs of spoilage.
