RaspberriesShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
Not RecommendedNot recommended
Fresh raspberries are highly perishable and should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods. They will spoil quickly.
Refrigerator
1-2 days
Store unwashed raspberries in a single layer on a paper towel in a shallow container. Cover loosely or keep in their original container. Wash gently just before eating.
Freezer
10-12 months
Wash and dry raspberries thoroughly. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer to airtight freezer bags or containers.
Signs of Spoilage
- Mold growth (fuzzy white or gray spots)
- Mushy or soft texture
- Sour or fermented odor
- Darkening or discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Fresh raspberries should be refrigerated promptly after purchase and not left out at room temperature to prevent rapid spoilage and bacterial growth.
Safe Handling
Wash raspberries gently under cool, running water just before consumption. Do not wash them in advance, as moisture can accelerate spoilage.
Handle gently to avoid bruising, which can lead to faster spoilage.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping raspberries separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
