For optimal quality and safety, raw horseradish root should be stored in the refrigerator.

Refrigerator

1-2 months

Store whole, unpeeled roots in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer. Once peeled or grated, store in an airtight container and use within 1-2 weeks.

Freezer

up to 6 months

Grate horseradish and pack tightly into freezer-safe containers or bags. For best quality, do not thaw before using.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft or mushy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Significant discoloration (dark spots)
  • Unpleasant, sour, or off-odor

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C)
