Fresh rosemary will wilt and lose flavor quickly at room temperature. For best quality, store in the refrigerator.

Refrigerator

1-2 weeks

Wrap fresh rosemary in a slightly damp paper towel, then place in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator.

Freezer

10-12 months

Wash and pat dry. Freeze whole sprigs on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Alternatively, chop and freeze in ice cube trays with water or olive oil.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Wilting or limp texture
  • Darkening or black spots on leaves
  • Slimy texture
  • Off-odor or sour smell
  • Visible mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)

Fresh rosemary should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If left out longer, discard to prevent bacterial growth.
