Fresh rosemary will wilt and lose flavor quickly at room temperature. For best quality, store in the refrigerator.
Refrigerator
1-2 weeks
Wrap fresh rosemary in a slightly damp paper towel, then place in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator.
Freezer
10-12 months
Wash and pat dry. Freeze whole sprigs on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag. Alternatively, chop and freeze in ice cube trays with water or olive oil.
Signs of Spoilage
- Wilting or limp texture
- Darkening or black spots on leaves
- Slimy texture
- Off-odor or sour smell
- Visible mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Fresh rosemary should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If left out longer, discard to prevent bacterial growth.
Safe Handling
Wash fresh rosemary thoroughly under cool running water before use.
Remove any wilted or discolored leaves before storage or use.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping fresh herbs separate from raw meats.
