Cooked chicken should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F/32°C).
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Refrigerate promptly in shallow, airtight containers. Ensure refrigerator temperature is 40°F (4°C) or below.
Freezer
2-6 months
Wrap tightly in heavy-duty foil or freezer wrap, or place in freezer bags. For best quality, use within 2-6 months.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-odor
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Mold growth
- Discoloration (e.g., greenish or grayish spots)
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including cooked chicken, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour. Discard any food left out longer than these times.
Safe Handling
Reheat all leftovers, including rotisserie chicken, to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) as measured with a food thermometer.
Prevent cross-contamination by keeping cooked chicken separate from raw foods and using clean utensils and cutting boards.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling cooked chicken.
Never leave cooked chicken at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
