Pantry

Not Recommended

Not recommended

Sausage patties are highly perishable and should not be stored at room temperature or in the pantry. Refrigerate or freeze immediately.

Refrigerator

1-2 days

Store raw sausage patties in their original packaging or tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Place on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods.

Freezer

1-2 months

For best quality, wrap raw sausage patties tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil, plastic freezer wrap, or place in freezer bags. Label with the date.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off-odor
  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Discoloration (gray or brown spots)
  • Mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including sausage patties, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), this time limit is reduced to 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4.4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Always refrigerate or freeze raw sausage patties promptly. Discard any sausage patties left in the danger zone for too long.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Cook raw sausage patties to an internal temperature of 160°F (71.1°C) as measured with a food thermometer.

2

Avoid cross-contamination: Use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils for raw sausage and ready-to-eat foods.

3

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling raw meat.

4

Thaw frozen sausage patties in the refrigerator, in cold water (changing water every 30 minutes), or in the microwave. Never thaw at room temperature.

5

Cook thawed sausage patties immediately.
