Up to the 'use by' date on the package (unopened)
Store unopened packages in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Once opened, pantry storage is not recommended due to rapid drying.
Refrigerator
1-2 days (opened)
Once opened, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil to prevent drying. Store in the coldest part of the refrigerator.
Freezer
2 months
Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil, or place in a heavy-duty freezer bag. Thaw in the refrigerator before use. Do not refreeze once thawed.
Signs of Spoilage
- Mold growth
- Sour or off-odor
- Significant discoloration
- Excessive dryness or brittleness (indicates quality degradation, making it unsuitable for use)
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Do not leave phyllo dough at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C) to prevent bacterial growth and significant drying out.
Safe Handling
Thaw frozen phyllo dough in the refrigerator, never at room temperature.
Do not refreeze phyllo dough once it has been thawed.
