Pantry

Not Recommended

Unsafe

Sliced tomatoes are highly perishable and should not be stored at room temperature. Refrigerate promptly.

Refrigerator

5-7 days

Store sliced tomatoes in a clean, airtight container in the refrigerator at 40°F (4°C) or below. Use within the recommended timeframe.

Freezer

8-12 months for best quality; safe indefinitely at 0°F (-18°C)

For best quality, freeze sliced tomatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to freezer bags or containers. The texture will be softer after thawing, making them best for cooked dishes.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Mold growth
  • Sour or off-odor
  • Slimy or mushy texture
  • Significant discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule: Do not leave perishable food out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Promptly refrigerate sliced tomatoes to prevent bacterial growth. Discard any sliced tomatoes left in the danger zone for too long.
