Pantry

12-18 months (unopened)

Store unopened cans in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not store above 75°F (24°C).

Refrigerator

5-7 days (opened)

Once opened, transfer stewed tomatoes to a clean, airtight container. Do not store in the opened can.

Freezer

10-12 months

Transfer stewed tomatoes to freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. Leave headspace if using rigid containers, as liquids expand when frozen.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Off-odor (sour, yeasty, or fermented smell)
  • Mold growth on the surface
  • Discoloration or darkening
  • Fuzzy appearance
  • Bulging or leaking cans (for unopened product, indicates spoilage and should be discarded immediately)

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable food should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.

Stewed tomatoes, once opened, should be refrigerated promptly. If left at room temperature within the danger zone for too long, discard them.
