Pantry

Not Recommended

Unsafe

Tiramisu contains perishable ingredients like mascarpone cheese and eggs, making it unsafe for pantry storage. It must be refrigerated.

Refrigerator

3-4 days

Store tiramisu in an airtight container to prevent absorption of odors and maintain freshness. Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below.

Freezer

1-2 months

Wrap tiramisu tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil, or place in a heavy-duty freezer bag or airtight freezer-safe container to prevent freezer burn. Thaw in the refrigerator.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off odor
  • Visible mold growth
  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Unusual discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including tiramisu, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Tiramisu should not remain in this temperature range for extended periods.

Always refrigerate tiramisu promptly after preparation or purchase. Discard any tiramisu left out at room temperature beyond the recommended time limits.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Keep tiramisu refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.

2

Do not leave tiramisu at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave out for more than 1 hour.

3

If preparing tiramisu at home, use pasteurized eggs or cook egg yolks to 160°F (71°C) to reduce the risk of Salmonella.

4

Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils and surfaces when preparing and serving.
