Turnip greens should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods as they will wilt and spoil quickly.

Refrigerator

Store unwashed turnip greens in a loose or perforated plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash thoroughly just before use.

Freezer

10-12 months

For best quality, blanch turnip greens before freezing. Wash, trim, and blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes. Cool quickly in ice water, drain well, pack into freezer-safe bags or containers, and remove as much air as possible.

  • Slimy or mushy texture
  • Off or sour odor

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including raw turnip greens, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), this time limit is reduced to 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Turnip greens should not remain in this temperature range for extended periods.
