Pantry
2-5 years for best quality, indefinitely for safety if stored properly and can is intact (unopened can)
Store unopened cans in a cool, dry place (below 85°F). Check for dents, bulges, or leaks before opening. Discard if can is damaged.
Refrigerator
3-4 days (opened can)
Transfer unused corn to a clean, airtight container. Do not store in the opened can. Refrigerate promptly.
Freezer
10-12 months (drained, transferred to freezer-safe container)
Drain liquid, pack into freezer-safe bags or containers, leaving headspace. Label with date.
Signs of Spoilage
- Off-odor (sour, putrid)
- Mold growth
- Slimy or mushy texture
- Discoloration
- For unopened cans: bulging, leaking, or severely dented cans are signs of spoilage and should be discarded immediately.
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food.
Do not store opened canned goods in their original can; transfer to a clean, food-grade container for refrigeration.
Refrigerate or freeze opened canned corn promptly after use to prevent bacterial growth.
