Pantry

1 week

Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. For optimal quality, refrigeration is recommended.

Refrigerator

3-4 weeks

Store in a plastic bag or airtight container in the refrigerator's crisper drawer to maintain moisture and extend shelf life.

Freezer

3-4 months

Whole lemons can be frozen, but the texture may become mushy after thawing, making them best for zest or juice. Wash, dry, and place in a freezer-safe bag or container.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Mold growth on the skin
  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Significant discoloration or dark spots
  • Off-odor

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies to cut lemons. Whole lemons are less susceptible to rapid bacterial growth at room temperature but should still be consumed within a week for best quality.

40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)

Keep whole lemons at room temperature for up to one week. If cut, refrigerate promptly and use within 2-3 days. Discard any cut lemon left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if above 90°F/32°C).
